Avoid Toenail Fungus
Toenail fungus or onychomycosis is a condition that affects about 14 to 20 percent of the population. In fact, according to Prevention about 50% of all nail discoloration is caused by fungus. Other symptoms include:

• Discoloration, e.g. yellow, black or green
• Swelling and redness around and under the nail

• Quit smoking
• Wash your hands often
• Always keep your feet dry
• Try not to cut your nails to short
• Avoid foot injury, especially the nails
• Apply powder to your feet after a shower or bath
• Wear sandals or other shoes that allow moisture to escape
• Never share your socks, shoes, nail file or nail clippers with others
• Wear socks. Change your socks immediately if they get wet or damp
• When getting a nail manicure, make sure they use sterile equipment
• Wear shower sandals when using public facilities like a swimming pool or locker room
• Before bed, wash and dry your feet thoroughly. Apply a topical antifungal to your nails 2xs a week and up to a year
